Brian Sweny, AIA, ASID, IIDA, LEED AP, NCIDQ, NACRB, IDEC
Architect and Designer

Professor Sweny is a registered architect in Georgia and New York and a registered interior designer in Georgia. 

With a triumvirate of design degrees — Master of Architecture, B.F.A. in Interior Design , and B.F.A. in Historic Preservation, B.F.A. — Brian is an award-winning architect, educator and architectural preservationist. 

Professor Brian Sweny captures all three disciplines into practice at the Atlanta-based firm, Sweny Design. 

Professor Sweny served as lead project architect and designer on numerous prestigious, award-winning projects - these include the design of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Global Health Communication Building; the restoration of the New York Public Library Main Reading Room; and the adaptive reuse of the Old Bird House at the Bronx Zoo, featured on the cover of Architectural Record in 1994. 

Top accolades include work on the Emory University Parking Deck, recognized by an Award of Excellence for Best Architectural Achievement, an Award of Merit for Best Parking Design by the International Parking Institute; first place award for Best Parking Structure from the Georgia Chapter of the American Concrete Institute International; Best Parking Structure at the PCI Design Awards. 

Professor Sweny’s work has been featured in Ascent and Interior magazine amongst others, receiving honors with the Gold Award for Outstanding Design Excellence from the Georgia American Society of Interior Designers in 2000.

M. Clifford
Business Designer / restaurant consultant

Celebrating thirty-two years of management, Clifford has acquired a multitude of business experience through his exposure with both managing different forms of resources with retail and restaurants. 

A background of restaurant consulting, budgeting, safety, menu development, and education, with an eye for color and lighting, he has an affinity for design on a business level.

His approach reflects the landscape of a client’s needs through thoughtful consideration of expectations within a project.

Clifford understands the integration between necessity and application through collaboration.

We believe communities can change rapidly and the active involvement of architects and interior designers can facilitate positive change. 

Sweny design team members are proud in serving Decatur, Atlanta, and many Georgia 

Communities through outreach and service. 

Efforts and alliances with Autism Speaks, GA Chapter; Open Hand Atlanta/ Brian Sweny served for two years on the statewide Georgia Alliance of Interior Design Professionals  (GAIDP) executive board to help with interior design legislation efforts. Brian Sweny has served in the statewide International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Georgia Chapter executive and general boards 2009 -2013. During his tenure, Georgia  passed the strongest Professional Interior Design Act in the nation.
